Life at times can feel difficult, even overwhelming, and we may struggle to see a way through. At such times, counselling offers a safe confidential space, where your thoughts, feelings and experiences can be explored. I have trained and practice as a person-centred counsellor, and I believe that each person is the expert of their own life. I provide a non-judgemental space and compassionate presence for you to talk about your concerns and navigate how to move through them.
About me and my practice
Therapy provides an authentic space and a compassionate presence for you to talk about your concerns in confidence. This is a non-judgemental space in which we can work collaboratively. In sharing your difficulties and emotional pain I can work in relationship with you to develop a greater sense of wellbeing. When a person feels heard and understood they are more at ease to offer acceptance to themselves. This can then lead to increased self-understanding, supporting and empowering you to make more informed choices.
There are a variety of approaches to the way practitioners work with their clients, I have trained and practice as a person-centred counsellor.
Person-centred counselling is a humanistic approach that esteems the client as the expert of their own life. At the heart of the person-centred approach is the therapeutic relationship. As a person-centred therapist I offer authentic presence, empathic understanding, and unconditional acceptance, trusting that with these facilitative qualities a person can reach their full potential and become their unique true self.
Experience
My experience includes supporting survivors of rape & sexual exploitation, and as a trauma informed I am committed to the healing of the whole person. From this perspective I work holistically, and am able to incorporate breath work and Focusing-Orientated Therapy. Developing a more practical understanding of our breathing gives us access to an ever available self-care resource and can strengthen our sense of wellbeing. Focusing is a mind ~ body awareness practice which can help us make contact with aspects of self that feel stuck. Repetitive emotional and physical patterns can hinder us from feeling fully engaged with life, Focusing can help a person re-connect with self and gain new perspective.
At the heart of my person-centred practice is the client and their unique experiences. I help people develop self-acceptance and attune to their own resources, so they can lead a more fulfilling life.
